Step 2!!  Had posted the original and finally got around to removing old cane and staining it.  It's not level so will ask 'good neighbor' to cut off the legs to get it even.  THEN, the caning!

    What kind of seat are you going to put on this lovely mule ear chair? If you are planning on staying within keeping of the period, I would suggest a splint seat out of hickory bark or reed, oak or ash.

    But then a paper rush seat, Shaker tape or wide binding cane in the herringbone twill design or the basketweave pattern would also be nice.

    There are so many different patterns and materials to choose from when you are reweaving a post and rail chair, aren't there? Check out my blog post about them, from March of last year. Link is below.
